The Wave

Abhishri Narayan

Currents pulling me apart

Stretching me thin

Drowning under the weight of expectations

Pressure building each second

Heard it would be like riding the wave,

Surfing through the best years of your life.

But for me? The waters are churning like a storm in my mind

Why can’t I just sail through?

I’m a ship lost at sea

No destination than away from this storm

Each crashing wave feels like a blow at my confidence

Self-worth sinking like an anchor

Time running out, can’t hold my breath any longer

The water trying to slap me back into reality

Where is my drive, that would lead me back to shore?

Swept away by the riptide

Waves toss me back and forth

Please calm the waters of my mind

It would be kinder to drown

Carried away by the wave
