Invade my thoughts and beckon me near

Darkness

Caresses my face and drags me back

Heat

Weighs on my heart; there is no escape

and everything rebels

And everything begs

no longer

  deny it

      I give in

i eat the cookie

And suddenly

Salt crystals

Piercing and surprising, relief and familiarity 

Pull me in for a hug 

Dark chocolate

Bitter and fierce, warm and comforting

Welcome me back with a smile 

Melting heat

Soft and sweet, safety and joy

Fills me up and holds my heart
